Police are investigating after human remains were found beneath a north Edmonton residential garage.

Investigators recovered the remains of an unidentified man buried in a garage in the area of 118 Avenue and 96 Street on Friday.

"As a result, a forensic examination has been conducted over the last few days, and yesterday the area was properly excavated to which human remains of a male were discovered approximately seven feet down underneath the concrete garage floor," Edmonton Police Service spokesperson Scott Pattison told CTV News.

Police believe the body was buried within the last year.

An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.

Anyone with information about this suspicious death is asked to contact Edmonton police at 780-423-4567. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

"We’re really hoping that somebody in the neighbourhood, or even somebody that has frequented that address may not be aware of what happened, but may know, for instance, the people who frequent that address regularly in the last year," Pattison said. "[It] may help investigators make some progress on the investigation."
