New renderings depicting the first phase of the Edmonton Galleria were released Tuesday.
The renderings are part of an update on the Galleria website. They show the eastern view of the building and the view looking from the west across 101 Street.
The building shown faces 101 Street just north of the EPCOR Tower. It will house the University of Alberta’s Department of Music and the Department of Art and Design. The space will include a 200 seat recital hall and 650 seat multipurpose theatre.
To the east of that building, the Galleria proper will be housed. That will also be built during the first phase of construction.
The update also said the CN Tower west annex will be torn down in the coming weeks. That space will be turned into a residential and retail development as part of Phase 2 of the project.
According to those behind the project, the city begins a series of public consultations this week. Stakeholders will share their thoughts as Galleria officials answer questions and gather feedback.
City council will contribute $7.5 million towards a pedway from the Galleria to the Churchill LRT Station.
Galleria officials plan to include a self-sustaining financial model when the project is done so that there will be no operating or maintenance subsidies.
Phase one is expected to be completed in 2018.
