Edmonton police said they were investigating a fatal collision that took place on Yellowhead Trail Sunday evening.

Police said on Sunday that a car was travelling westbound on Yellowhead Trail at about 5:30 p.m., when the driver appeared to lose control as it approached Victoria Trail.

The car flipped and landed on the roadway.

The male driver, believed to be 47-years-old was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

His female passenger, believed to be 41-years-old, was pronounced dead at the scene.

EPS said witnesses reported the vehicle had been driving erratically, and speeding, before the collision.

It’s believed alcohol was a factor.
