RCMP in central Alberta are investigating after a woman was struck in a hit and run in Red Deer, which police are handling as an attempted murder.

Red Deer RCMP were called to the hit and run on Tuesday at around 8:30 p.m.

Crews arrived to find a woman suffering from injuries at the area of Gaetz Avenue, just north of 67 Street.

Police said witness reports stated there had allegedly been a verbal and physical confrontation between a Diane Stewart, 60, and her daughter Stacey Stewart, 32, in an alley behind an ATB.

Witnesses reported they saw the daughter get into a truck, back up, hitting another vehicle, and then drive the truck directly at her mother. After striking her, the daughter left the scene.

The mother was rushed to the Red Deer Regional Hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Her daughter, who is known to Red Deer RCMP, was arrested without incident near Highway 597 and Highway 815 by Blackfalds RCMP, and has been charged with attempted murder among other charges.
