The man accused of killing 14-year-old Emily Stauffer less than three months ago in Edson pleaded not guilty in court Tuesday morning.

Ross Kleman's plea was entered via a lawyer who appeared on his behalf.

Kleman did not appear in court and has elected to be tried by judge and jury.

Kleman will remain in police custody for the time being and defence lawyer Jan Terhart says he will be asking for bail when he appears in court on Jan. 20th

Emily Stauffer, 14, was found slain in her hometown on Sept. 27 on a walking path not far from her home.

Kleman worked as an equipment operator in the town of Edson.

A Facebook page under Kleman's name states that the Bible is his favourite book. The page also lists Kleman's interests as music, gospel and going to church.
