Occupational Health and Safety has issued a stop-work order for a north-east Edmonton business, after a man in his 60s died on the job Thursday.

According to OHS, the 62-year-old man died after he was caught between the moving parts of a forklift as he worked at Lift Boss located on Yellowhead Trail Thursday afternoon.

A spokesperson for OHS said the department has seized the equipment for their investigation, and a stop-work order has been issued.

The incident marks a tragic end to a year where more fines were given to Alberta employers for worksite safety violations.

OHS said about $3.4 million in fines were given to employers in 2011, nearly double the amount given in previous years.
