It was the first day back for students and staff at Grande Prairie Composite High School after a tragic collision over the weekend claimed the lives of four teens.

Matt Deller, Vince Stover, Tanner Hildebrand and Walter Borden-Wilkins were killed in a crash early Saturday morning on Highway 668 near Highway 40.

A fifth teen in the vehicle, Zak Judd, was taken to an Edmonton hospital and remains in critical but stable condition.

All five teens were members of the school's football team and everyone was invited to wear school colours to show solidarity.

One student told CTV News that wearing orange and black made it easier to handle the situation.

"It was a kind of nerve racking knowing I have to come to school with this," Kyra Howard said, adding that it was easier to return to school knowing her classmates would also be wearing the colours.

Even mom Diane Heywood felt it was important to wear orange and black.

"In honour of the four children and the one who is fighting for his life," she said.

Brendan Holubowich, 21, is now facing 11 charges including impaired driving. He is currently out on bail and is expected to make his first court appearance on October 31.

A barbecue has been planned by the football team to help raise money to support the families of the teens. Donations will also be accepted at any Grande Prairie Royal Bank Branch.
