Edmonton Homicide Detectives have charged a teenaged boy in connection to the stabbing death of an 18-year-old man earlier this week.

Police said Thursday that a 16-year-old male, who cannot be identified as he is underage, is facing charges of second-degree murder and possession of a weapon, connected to the death of Shane Bird early Monday.

Officers were called to the area of 114 Street, north of Jasper Avenue just before 1 a.m. Monday, after police received reports of a violent incident in the area.

Less than two minutes later, police arrived on the scene and rushed the victim, later identified as Bird, to hospital – where he was later pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner determined Bird succumbed to stab wounds.

Police said they’re not looking for additional suspects in the case.
