Police are investigating after a young woman was killed in a hit and run early Sunday morning.

Family and friends have identified the young woman as 18-year-old Faith Jackson.

They also told CTV Edmonton that Jackson was the mother of a one year old boy.

Family said they hope the driver of the vehicle will turn themselves in.

“It’s not going to make it any easier but if they have any kind of heart what so ever it would be nice for justice to happen,” Jackson’s Aunt Gwen Sampson  said.

“She meant a lot to our family,” cousin Alicia Cardinal added.

“She’ll be missed.”

Sampson said that Jackson had been walking home with three or four other people.

“She was on her way home and she didn’t make it home.

“We never got a chance to say goodbye.”

Edmonton police said the teen was hit by a dark coloured vehicle around 3:20 a.m. on 82 Street and 141 Avenue.

“We don’t know if they were on the sidewalk or crossing the road." Cst. Amanda Terenchard told CTV Edmonton at the scene.

Jackson was transported to hospital but later died.

Investigators found a Dodge Charger in a southbound ditch at Fort Road and 187 Avenue around noon on Sunday, which they believe was the suspect vehicle.

“The origin and the owner of the vehicle is all still under investigation,” Duty Officer Sid Kingma said.

The vehicle had damage to the front fender and hood on the passenger’s side.

It still had factory stickers and a dealer plate.

Police have asked anyone who may have information about the vehicle or the incident to call them at 780-423-4567.
