Now that the snow has melted, the city is reminding Edmonton home and business owners that graffiti needs to be cleaned up.

Now, Graffiti Municipal Enforcement Officers have started working with owners, to get rid of vandalism, and take action against those who don’t clean it up.

“The quicker we remove graffiti, the less likely it is to come back,” Graffiti Project Manager Sharon Chapman said. “The graffiti detracts from the natural beauty of our city; we really want to show of that Edmonton is a clean place, and a safe place to live.”

It’s the home or business owner’s responsibility to remove tags, or face a fine of at least $250.

However, the city has also set up programs to help property owners clean up the graffiti, Capital City Clean Up has a Professional Graffiti Cleaning Program, which allows business owners and homeowners to have a professional cleaning up to $500 in value.

In addition, free graffiti cleanup kits are also available.
