A number of Alberta organizations, including CTV Edmonton, weighed in with their own April Fool’s Day pranks Friday.

AMA Roadside Assistance, now with pets!

The Alberta Motor Association touted their newly-launched Roadside Comfort Pet program, saying “At AMA, we’re not just a tow company, we’re a make-people’s-day-better company”.

The program says when AMA members call for roadside assistance, they could also request an animal they would like brought along. Selection includes: puppies, rabbits, llamas and miniature horses – with plans to expand that list.

Pups a priority at EIA

Staying on the same theme, the Edmonton International Airport said they were launching the EIA Priority Pup Program.

In a news release, EIA said: “After months of consultation with passengers, airlines and, of course, dogs, we are thrilled to finally announce our new Priority Pup Program.” The program offered special treatment and services tailored for dogs.

Perks include a priority check-in, stress and anxiety services and lounge access.

Oilers keeping Rexall Place ice

The days of the Oilers calling Rexall Place home are numbered, but the team said Friday that they would be taking more than the Wayne Gretzky Statue when they leave for their new home at Rogers Place.

In a Facebook post, the Oilers outlined how they would remove and store the ice at Rexall Place after their season ends.

Province to transport oil by airship

The Alberta Government’s prank proposes a high-flying alternative to pipelines in the government’s plan to bring oil to other markets: zeppelin.

The province said it had “cracked the energy industry’s market access issues” with the new plan that would ship bitumen, oil and natural gas to foreign markets using zeppelin balloons.

“Airship technology has advanced by leaps and bounds since the Hindenburg,” Premier Rachel Notley is quoted in the news release. “Balloons are a safe and environmentally friendly means of transporting our energy products.”

In the release, the province said the tendering process for a fleet of 200 giant airships was being launched Friday – the province said it would be required that 50 percent of the balloons be produced in Alberta.

The tongue-in-cheek release said the first shipments to Asia-Pacific refineries are expected by April 1, 2017.

Pranks on CTV Morning Live staff

At CTV Edmonton, we couldn’t resist our own pranks, both for our viewers and even one unfortunate meteorologist.

Throughout CTV Morning Live on Friday, anchors Rob Williams and Stacey Brotzel were “cloned” and replaced intermittently with younger versions of themselves.

Shooting promos is something our hosts have to do on a regular basis – so it wasn’t hard to prank CTV Morning Live meteorologist Cory Edel.

Web producer Luc Tremblay, with help from Traffic host Kim Wynn pranked Edel with a script for a fictional prize giveaway – for a trip to Iceland. The script was complete with a number of tricky names, but Edel was a good sport. Watch the video here:

We pranked sweet, naive Cory. Sorry, Cory!
