Firefighters responded to a house fire in Beaumont late Wednesday afternoon that left a family homeless.

The emergency call came in at 4:25 p.m., with the first responders controlling the fire within an hour.

Before the firefighters arrived, the Belmore’s neighbor Catherine Keshavejee noticed smoke coming from next door, and knowing that her neighbors have seven kids, she quickly went over to help.

“I came out of my backyard and saw their house on fire,” Keshavejee said. “It was no looking back – it was get these babies out of here.”

Five children of the seven children were inside the house when the blaze was burning the shed and the side of the house, and Keshavejee safely evacuated them with no injuries.

“Had she not been there, it would have been worse,” Al Belmore, the homeowner and father of the kids, said. “She got the kids out, so thank you, Catherine.

The Eaglemont Christian Church in Beaumont is taking donations for the Belmore family.

“Everybody’s been coming forward, so it’s been awesome,” Belmore said. “It’s a great community.”

The cause of the fire and extent of the damages are unknown, and the investigation began Thursday.
