Edmonton police said Thursday that the city’s most recent homicide, that resulted in the death of a 38-year-old man more than a week before, had been found to be non-culpable homicide.

Back on Wednesday, July 12 at 11:45 p.m., officers were called to the Evergreen Mobile Home Park over a reported assault.

Reports indicated that two males, aged 38 and 26-years-old had been in a fight, and the older man had suffered life-threatening head injuries.

He was treated on the scene and then transported to hospital by paramedics, but he succumbed to his injuries on July 15.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner confirmed he died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head in connection to the July 12 fight.

Investigators consulted with the Crown, and said Thursday that no charges will be laid as the death has determined to be non-culpable. An EPS spokesperson confirmed it was self-defence.

This is Edmonton’s 28th homicide of 2017.
