Emergency crews were on the scene of a water rescue Thursday, after a vehicle veered off a highway, and ended up submerged in a pond.

Edmonton police told CTV News a small vehicle was heading eastbound on Anthony Henday Drive, when it went off the road, into a farmer’s field, before ending up in a pond late Tuesday afternoon.

The car sank into the water near the Henday and 97 Street.

Rescue crews managed to pull the driver, and lone occupant, from the submerged car - it's estimated the car was under water for up to 12 minutes before the driver was rescued.

The driver was rushed to hospital with undisclosed injuries.
