City of Edmonton officials announced Monday that Edmonton Transit System staff had started training on the new LRT Metro Line.

Officials said their review of documents required for Metro Line operations is ongoing – but enough has been done to allow ETS to work with the new system and to train ETS staff. According to the City, staff started field training on Saturday.

Soon, ETS passengers may see training vehicles operating on the main LRT line, the Capital Line, during off-peak hours. These trains can’t carry passengers, the City said, for safety reasons. The training vehicles will have ‘Not in Service’ on their digital displays.

ETS advised drivers, cyclists and pedestrians might see trains on the Metro Line at intersections between the MacEwan Station and the NAIT Station – they’re asked to obey traffic signs and signals, and to not stop on the tracks.

While training is underway, no opening date for the Metro Line has been set.
