A man believed to have broken into a car and taken the owner’s iPad is in custody, after police tracked him down with help from an app.
The owner of the iPad called police Wednesday afternoon after his car was broken into, and officers managed to trace the stolen item using the Find My iPhone app.
The app directed officers to a stolen vehicle that was reportedly driving erratically.
The driver initially stopped for officers, but fled hitting a police cruiser in the process.
Air One was called in to help track the car down, and eventually officers took more direct action to stop the suspect.
“What you see behind me is the result of deliberate vehicle contact, where police vehicles literally had to make contact to stop it,” Insp. Malcolm Allan said at the scene.
The iPad was found inside the vehicle and recovered.
Charges are pending against the suspect.
