City of Edmonton fire officials have lifted a fire ban within city limits, crediting steady rainfall in the area.

On Monday, Edmonton Fire Rescue Services said the fire ban was lifted – after it went into effect Tuesday, May 21.

Officials said enough rain had fallen in 72 hours to lower the city’s fire weather index, and lower the extreme fire risk.

Under the fire ban, all open burning and use of backyard fire pits, solid fuel cooking stoves in parks and fireworks were banned.
