A former Edmonton teacher has been charged with sexual exploitation.

Brad Ashley Glenn, 35, is alleged to have been in a position of power as a teacher when sexual activity occurred with a former student between the ages of 16 and 18.

Police arrested the man on Wednesday at his Edmonton home. The alleged incident was reported in June.

"The alleged offence took place over the past three years. I can tell you from an investigative standpoint our investigation focused on a time in the fall of 2009 and it moved forward up to present day," said Staff Sgt. Kent Anderson with the Edmonton Police Service.

The man had taught English at W.P Wagner High School for years. Parents say they were shocked to hear the news.

I'm shocked, I mean it's really shocking, your kids go to school here, I don't know anything about it.

The Edmonton Public School division sent letters home with students telling parents that the former teacher has been charged and that he's no longer employed.

"These allegations have come forward, they are very serious allegations and we do take them very seriously, and this individual is no longer employed with Edmonton Public Schools," said Cheryl Oxford with Edmonton Public Schools.

There is another teacher employed by Edmonton Public Schools named Brad Glenn. Notes went home to the parents of his students saying he has no connection to the sexual exploitation allegations.

The accused is scheduled to appear in court next Wednesday.
