Fort Saskatchewan RCMP are investigating, after receiving reports golf balls were either being hit or thrown into a cul-de-sac in the city.
Police said the balls are believed to have been thrown into the cul-de-sac in the area of 94 Avenue and 80 Street, with reports dating back to the start of May, 2017.
RCMP said damage to vehicles and houses in the area has been reported, and police are concerned over the potential for personal injury.
Dave Stagg lives on the cul-de-sac, and said he came home from holiday to find his new pickup truck damaged.
“As soon as we pulled up in the driveway, my wife says ‘You have a dent in your tailgate’,” Stagg said.
“Not only was there dents in my tailgate, but in both doors.”
Stagg told CTV News it cost about $5,300 to fix the damage.
Other neighbours also reported property being pitted with the golf balls.
“Every single house in this crescent has had golf balls arrive in their yard,” Brenda Whalen said.
Whalen has lived on the cul-de-sac for 40 years, but hasn’t seen anything like this before – and more than 30 of the balls have been collected since they started arriving, she’s turned all of them over to police.
Reports of golf balls have been concentrated at the one cul-de-sac, and police believe the area is being targeted, although it isn’t clear why.
“It is odd, no one can say where they’re coming from, there’s no specific time of day or time of night,” Cst. Suzanne Ahlstrom with Fort Saskatchewan RCMP said.
There are no green spaces or golf courses in the area where the balls could be coming from.
“I don’t think anyone, when in their neighbourhood, in their yard, should be concerned about a flying projectile that could cause injury to them,” Cst. Ahlstrom said.
