Officials west of Edmonton were busy Wednesday afternoon, after a wildfire in the area threatened a nearby hamlet and forced its evacuation.

On Wednesday afternoon, an emergency alert indicated residents in a portion of Lac Ste. Anne County should prepare for possible evacuation due to a wildfire burning on the Alexis First Nation.

Later that day, officials issued a mandatory evacuation order for the Hamlet of Glenevis area – residents were being told to head to the Hamlet of Cherhill.

Officials said the wildfire crossed the fire line at about 3:22 p.m.
