This weekend’s bad weather has affected the Edmonton's Food Bank’s donation goal at the Servus Heritage Festival – their largest fundraising event of the year.

The food bank had collected 16,000 kg of their 50,000 kg goal by Sunday evening.

A severe thunderstorm closed the event at Hawrelak Park Saturday around 4:30 p.m., and events such as K-Days and Taste of Edmonton are also being held over the long weekend.

“The many wonderful events overlapping and the weather has taken a toll on the food drive,” said Edmonton's Food Bank Executive Director Marjorie Bencz.

Monday is the festival’s final day, and event-goers are encouraged to bring food items or donate unused tickets.

Major grocery stores and fire stations will be accepting donations for the Edmonton Food Bank until August 5
