Kieran Porter, the man who allegedly struck and killed a Good Samaritan with his vehicle in 2012, has pleaded not guilty to the charges of careless driving, hit and run and failure to stop at the scene of an accident resulting in death.

It was the late evening of June 13, 2012 when Porter allegedly hit and killed Andrew Green, 46, who had stopped to help another motorist on the southbound lanes of Anthony Henday near 62nd avenue.

In court on Tuesday, officers testified that Green was hit with strong force. Sgt. Nikolaus Bult described Green's head injuries as "catastrophic", saying Green's body was dragged under the vehicle, dislocating the muffler. Court also heard that the road conditions were good at the time of the crash.

The trial is expected to continue for another week.
