A 22-year-old man has been charged after a police-involved shooting in Vegreville on Christmas Day.

RCMP said they have charged the yet unnamed man with possession of weapon dangerous to the public and public mischief.

The charges follow allegations that the man called police reporting a robbery at the TD Bank in Vegreville around 9 a.m. December 25.

Authorities said officers responded to the scene and were confronted by the man.

“Due to situational factors, the male was shot by the RCMP,” they stated in a press release.

The man was treated in hospital and officials said he was excepted to be released shortly.

His first court appearance has been scheduled for Monday, December 29 in an Edmonton courtroom.

ASIRT is still investigating the shooting.
