The man dubbed a community hero has been reunited with the young girls he saved.

Adam Shaw was the guest of honour at Friday night’s Oil Kings game, where the girls surprised him with cards and treats for his dog, Rocky.

It was the first time the girls saw the duo since they were rescued from the North Saskatchewan River last weekend.

“I said thank you and I am happy that he is alive too,” 9-year-old Samara smiled.

She said the cards were made by her classmates.

“I saw some tears there so I was trying to be tough and hold some back, but it's great. That was awesome,” Shaw said.

Shaw was given the privilege of dropping the puck at Friday’s game.
