A man from the Maritimes is dead after a fatal collision near Kitscoty, Alta. on Wednesday morning.

Kitscoty RCMP were called to the two-vehicle collision on Highway 897 near Township Road 512, north of Kitscoty, at approximately 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say a northbound pick-up truck had struck a deer that was attempting to cross the highway, causing the driver to swerve into southbound lanes where it then struck a southbound car head-on.

The driver and sole occupant of the southbound vehicle, a 46-year-old man who had been living temporarily in the Marwayne area, died instantly.

Police say the man was originally from the Maritimes and had been in Alberta for a job.

His name is not being released at this time.

Meanwhile the occupants of the northbound pick-up truck were taken to nearby hospitals as a precaution. They received no serious injuries.

Police say no charges are being considered at this time.

Kitscoty is located about 227 kilometres east of Edmonton.
