A man is dead and five are injured after a multiple-vehicle collision south of Pigeon Lake early Saturday afternoon, Wetaskiwin RCMP said.

The collision pileup involved two vehicles and six motorcycles in the area of Range Road 12 and Highway 13.

A 23-year-old woman in a Ford F150 driving eastbound on Highway 13 hit the back of a Ford Explorer that was slowing down to turn onto Range Road 12. Both vehicles then crossed the west-bound lane and hit six motorcycles, according to RCMP.

A 29-year-old male motorcyclist died in the crash, and the five other motorcyclists were taken to the hospital – one by STARS and four by ground ambulance.

A family of four with two small children was in the Ford F150, and there was one person in the Ford Explorer, RCMP said. None of them was transported to the hospital or sustained significant injuries.

The motorcycles were part of a group of 20-30 participants who were riding from Edmonton to Sylvan Lake.

Pigeon Lake is around 100 kilometres southwest of Edmonton.
