Grande Prairie RCMP revealed the name of the man killed in a shooting in that city earlier in the week.

Early Wednesday morning, RCMP were called to reports of shots fired outside of an establishment located in the area of 108 Street and 104 A Avenue in Grande Prairie.

When police arrived, they found a seriously injured person lying on the ground, the young man was rushed to hospital where he later died.

RCMP said an autopsy was conducted Thursday, and the deceased was identified as John William Rock, 28, of Edmonton.

Investigators said they had found Rock had been a patron of the establishment in that area that evening, and he was shot shortly after leaving the bar – and investigators believed the shooting was not a random act.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call Grande Prairie RCMP at 780-830-5701, or to submit anonymous tips through Crime Stoppers by calling 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
