Edmonton police at a north-side community police station say the power of social media helped reunite a newlywed couple with a photo album of their special day that was found on a park bench earlier this week.

Police at the Namao Centre Community Station on the north side released some photos of a small photo album Friday morning, in the hopes of tracking down the couple featured in the pictures.

That album had been found on a park bench near Mary Butterworth School, at 16315 109 Street, on August 12.

It was turned into police at the community station Thursday.

Once the photos were released, CTV News posted one of the photos on Facebook, and not long after that, the photo was shared dozens, and even hundreds of times.

At the same time, officers at the Namao Station received a number of tips in response – one of those was from a close friend of the couple who helped the new bride get in touch with officers.

By mid-afternoon Friday, the album was back in the possession of the newlyweds – the couple had tied the knot on July 27.
