Police in central Alberta are investigating, after two suspects were caught on surveillance cameras setting a garbage can on fire.

RCMP in Red Deer said police and the Red Deer Fire Investigator responded to a fire call at Lindsay Thurber Comprehensive High School at about 1 a.m. Tuesday.

Police said a fire had been set in a garbage can that was full of debris from a wood shop.

The fire was described as significant and left heat damage on the outside of the school.

Video surveillance showed two males starting the fire – and then staying on the scene for some time as the fire burned.

Investigators are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspects, the first suspect is described as:

  • Wearing jeans and a dark jacket with a hooded sweatshirt underneath
  • Medium length brown hair

The second suspect was seen wearing dark clothing with a white toque.
