An RCMP officer working west of Edmonton is facing fraud charges – after an investigation was launched into his conduct.

Stony Plain RCMP said Sgt. Jim Martin of Spruce Grove was charged with two counts each of fraud and breach of trust on Jan. 7.

According to police, its alleged Sgt. Martin used RCMP credit cards to buy personal items.

An investigation was launched into the officer in March, 2012, after RCMP received a public complaint about Sgt. Martin’s conduct.

The accused has been suspended without pay – pending resolution of the charges he’s facing.

RCMP officials will conduct an internal RCMP Code of Conduct investigation once the criminal court process is complete.

Martin’s first court appearance has been scheduled for Jan. 30.
