A fire in a barn east of Edmonton tied up area fire crews for at least two hours Monday – although it didn’t take long for firefighters to gain the upper hand.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in an empty barn near Township Road 522 and Range Road 222 just before 4 p.m. Monday.

Crews had the main blaze under control within an hour, although the blaze sparked a number of small brush fires.

However, those smaller fires were dealt with quickly.

No injuries were reported as a result of the blaze, the cause had not been determined Monday evening.

Strathcona County has been under a fire ban since May 7.

Last week, firefighters dealt with a massive fire in the county - which was discovered May 21, and continued burning throughout the week.
