The man accused of robbing an armoured truck and killing three security guards at the University of Alberta in June will go to trial next fall.

The trial date was set Friday morning for Travis Baumgartner, who faces three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder in the incident at HUB Mall on June 15.

He will go to trial on Sept. 9, 2013.

The Crown is proceeding with a direct indictment against Baumgartner – which means there will be no preliminary hearing before the case goes to trial.

Three G4S security guards were killed and one was injured while they were loading a bank machine at the university’s HUB Mall and residence just after midnight on June 15.

Eddie Rejano, 39, Michelle Shegelski, 26, and Brian Ilesic, 35, died in the incident.

Matthew Schuman, a fourth guard, was wounded.

Baumgartner was arrested a day after the shooting at the Canada-U.S. border.

Unsealed search warrants in the case allege that up to $1.9 million went missing after the robbery.
