Months after a man was shot and killed by RCMP, as officers tried to pull over a driver in the Ma-Me-O Beach area, police have laid charges against three men.

The development stems from an investigation that started after an incident escalated at Ma-Me-O Beach on August 3.

That evening, RCMP tried to pull over a suspected impaired driver, investigators said the officer tried to arrest one of the men in the vehicle, but was confronted by the other four individuals.

Several shots were fired, and two men inside the vehicle were shot, including a 30-year-old man from Pigeon Lake, who succumbed to his injuries at the scene, a 41-year-old man was injured and taken to hospital.

On Tuesday, the RCMP Calgary Major Crimes Unit said Tuesday that two individuals: Lawrence Cutarm, 63, and Laron Cutarm, 28, were arrested on November 29 – and arrest warrants had been issued for Lee Cutarm, 42, in connection to the case.

Lawrence Cutarm, who was released and is scheduled to appear in court December 12, is facing charges ranging from assaulting a peace officer with a weapon, to driving while disqualified, impaired driving, resisting arrest and intimidating a justice system participant.

Laron Cutarm remains in custody, and is facing charges of assaulting a peace officer and intimidating a justice system participant, Lee Cutarm is facing the same charges.
