Hours after RCMP in southern Alberta issued an Amber Alert for a missing 2-year-old girl; police confirmed they were also investigating the death of a man in his 20s, identified as the girl’s father.

Just after 2 p.m. Monday, RCMP in southern Alberta issued the Amber Alert for Hailey Dunbar-Blanchette, 2, - saying it was believed she had been abducted from a home in Blairmore, Alberta at about 3:30 a.m.

Later Monday afternoon, RCMP Superintendent Tony Hamori, Assistant District Officer of the Southern Alberta District released more details on what happened.

Hamori said officers were first called to the Blairmore home at 11:15 a.m. Monday, after a family member found a man’s body inside. RCMP identified the deceased as Terry Blanchette.

Now, RCMP are investigating two cases – the disappearance of the little girl, and the suspicious death of the 27-year-old man, who police confirm is the child’s father.

The Amber Alert was lifted Tuesday, September 15.
