City officials are hoping that introducing a new app will help residents more easily reach city staff.
Officials said Monday that the ‘311 App’ – as it’s being called at the moment, is still being developed – but it’s hoped the app would give Edmontonians quicker access to services, and an easier way to provide officials with feedback.
The app came up while a city committee looked at an audit of the City of Edmonton’s social media properties, and ways to better engage with residents.
“Technology allows more of a two-way conversation, I think the big concern from citizens is that we broadcast a lot,” Mayor Don Iveson said.
Calgary and St. Albert already have their own versions of such apps – one councillor said it’s time for Edmonton to follow suit.
“That’s part of the evolution with social media and communication with citizens in general, it’s not just the phone calls and e-mails anymore,” Councillor Andrew Knack said.
It’s hoped the app will be ready for users at some point in July.
