The provincial representative of a north-west Edmonton constituency has announced the current term will be his last in the Legislature.

Edmonton-Calder MLA Doug Elniski announced Wednesday he will not seek re-election.

In a press release, Elniski briefly reflected on his time in provincial politics.

"Since March 2008, I have attempted to honestly and diligently represent the issues of my constituents and work to improve their quality of life."

Elniski also acknowledged Premier Alison Redford, and said he was proud to have worked with her.

"Her pragmatic approach to governance is exactly what we need in a province as prosperous as Alberta. Her stewardship will ensure that equity exists between service to Albertans and fiscal responsibility."

He said he was leaving provincial politics, to pursue other interests.

Elniski is one of several Conservative MLAs to announce plans to leave provincial politics in the last few months.

He joins MLAs Lindsay Blackett, Iris Evans, and Lloyd Snelgrove.
