An Edmonton man has been recovering in hospital after a single-vehicle collision near Airdrie.
RCMP said they were called out around 1:45 p.m. Saturday to the intersection of Highway 566 and Symons Valley Road, north of Calgary.
Investigators believe the 70-year-old driver was heading west on Highway 566 when he struck a guard rail.
The vehicle traveled along the guard rail for a short distance and then flipped over the rail and landed on its roof.
The driver, who was the lone occupant in the vehicle, was trapped and suffered a severe arm injury.
The jaws of life were used to free him from the vehicle and he was taken to a Calgary hospital via STARS Air Ambulance.
Police said speed and alcohol were both factors in the collision.
