One of the men convicted and sentenced for his role in the shooting deaths of four RCMP officers, is set to receive more unescorted temporary absences from prison.

The Parole Board of Canada said Shawn Hennessey will be allowed to visit family for as long as 78 hours, once a month for six months.

He was first granted home visits in March.

He’s expected to apply for day parole in September.

Hennessey and Dennis Cheeseman, his brother-in-law, pleaded guilty to manslaughter for giving James Roszko a rifle, and giving him a ride to his farm near Mayerthorpe in 2005, before Roszko ambushed and killed the four officers.

Roszko was shot and wounded, before killing himself that day.

In 2009, Hennessey was sentenced to 10 years and four months behind bars.
