In their most recent day-long push in traffic enforcement, Edmonton Police Service members handed out hundreds of traffic tickets for a variety of violations.

Police said in one case, an officer pulled over a man in his 30s, who had been clocked driving at 120 kilometres an hour, on Groat Road near Emily Murphy Park – double the legal speed limit in the area.

The latest ‘Operation 24 Hours’ started at 7 a.m. Thursday, and wrapped up at 7 a.m. Friday morning.

In total, officers handed out 1,810 traffic tickets during the crackdown, of those, 1,436 were for speeding, 360 were for other traffic violations, and the remaining 14 were for criminal code charges.

Police said the numbers should serve as a reminder to drivers to watch their speed, and obey traffic laws.

Additional similar enforcement operations are being planned in the future.
