Free influenza immunizations were made available to Albertans over six months of age starting Monday morning.
As of Monday, the flu shot is available through Alberta Health Services (AHS) clinics, pharmacies, and doctors’ offices around Alberta.
Officials said young children and seniors, and adults with health issues should get vaccinated.
“Those priority populations are groups in which having influenza is actually quite a dangerous thing,” Dr. Chris Sikora, AHS medical Officer of Health said. “Those groups are kids under the age of 2, folks generally over the age of 65, or those who are pregnant or have multiple medical conditions.”
AHS also urged healthy individuals to get it as well. Last season, more than 1,600 Albertans were hospitalized, and 54 people died because of the flu.
