Days after police arrested one man in connection to a drug and weapon investigation that also uncovered explosives, investigators said dozens of charges had been laid.
Back on Tuesday, September 6, investigators executed a search warrant at a home and detached garage in the area of 20 Avenue and 46 Street as part of a drug and weapons investigation.
Police found and seized a dozen firearms (long barrel guns, sawed-off shotguns and handguns), prohibited silencers and suppressors, 28 prohibited magazines, a large amount of ammunition and body armour. In addition, police seized two stolen skid steers and a stolen flat deck trailer.
Plus, an improvised explosive device and a suspected commercial explosive were discovered in the garage during the search – the surrounding neighbourhood was evacuated as a result.
Both were detonated on the scene by the EPS Explosive Disposal Unit, evacuated residents were allowed back home by 10 p.m.
Police said a home in the area of 39 Avenue and 76 Street was also searched Tuesday, investigators seized methamphetamine, hashish and heroin, along with about 50 grams of marijuana, 348 synthetic marijuana pills, drug scales, and baggies, and more than $3,000 cash.
Officers with Downtown Division pulled over a vehicle also in connection to the investigation, and two males were arrested without incident, one of those individuals is facing more than 70 charges in connection to the investigation.
Now, Graham McCagherty, 30, is facing 47 charges of possession of a prohibited device, twelve counts of unsafe storage of a firearm, three counts of possession of body armour without a valid permit, five counts of possession of stolen property, four counts of possession of a controlled substance, and single charges of possession of an explosive substance without lawful excuse, and possession of an explosive substance without exercising reasonable care.
