Police and Emergency Medical Services personnel were on the scene of a shooting, and had a parking lot and section of road closed off for several hours Monday.
Emergency crews were called to the area of 102 Avenue and 113 Street after 4 p.m.
CTV News has learned a male had to be treated by paramedics in a parking lot on 113 Street.
Police have blocked off a half-block area around the scene, and are interviewing multiple witnesses.
“I stopped and parked my car, I heard the first gun shot, I looked in my rear view mirror, I saw the gentleman fall to the ground,” A woman told CTV News. “I [turned] my head around, and two assailants went directly up to the gentleman and shot him two more times, point blank really.”
Police said the shooting happened after two groups got into an argument.
“It’s too early in the investigation to tell what the disturbance was about,” Inspector Joel Whittaker said. “Our best guess, it was a dispute that occurred in the parking lot and escalated into the shooting.”
Some witnesses told CTV News the argument was over money.
“There was a Jeep parked there with a young man bleeding on the ground, [lying] face down, and a young blonde lady screaming ‘Don’t let him die’,” A witness said shortly after the incident.
Investigators said a man was shot in the stomach, and the shooter fled the scene.
Witnesses said the assailants then fled in an SUV.
Police had no description of the suspect or suspects, only that they were men in their 20s.
The victim was rushed to hospital but his condition was not known.
