Edmonton police have identified 29-year-old John Stanley Kwiatkowski as the victim in last week's homicide.

On April 14th, an ambulance was dispatched to a home located at 34th Street and 103rd Avenue where paramedics found the body of a man in late 20s.

Police immediately suspected foul play and later confirmed the death as a homicide. The man lived in the house with his common-law wife and young daughter.

The man's common-law wife arrived home last Thursday to find a tragic scene. The little girl was taken away by medical responders.

The victim's father-in-law says whoever is responsible for the man's killing also injured his two-year-old grandchild.

"By the way, they roughed her up too," said Dave Rudkevitch. "We're lucky that my granddaughter's still alive today, but these low lifes, even roughed her up. So if that counts for anything maybe that just might bring the calls in a little harder."

Neighbours who saw the little girl taken away by paramedics noticed she had a black eye. Rudkevitch believes whoever killed Kwiatkowski used a weapon to strike the little girl.

Rudkevitch says there are false rumours circulating about why Rudkevitch died. But he just wants the public to know more about those responsible for killing the 29-year-old.

"Somebody knows something out there and this family needs a little closure on that end," he said.

Police say the Medical Examiner's Office has completed an autopsy on the victim, but the cause of death will not be released at this time.

Police say since putting out a request for information from the public regarding the homicide, detectives have been able to recover a white purse that had been stolen from the residence where the man's body was found.

The victim's family says Kwiatkowski worked for the City of Edmonton as a labour foreman.

Anyone with further information about this homicide is urged to contact police at 780-423-4567.
