Edmonton police are searching for a male suspect Wednesday morning following a fatal shooting overnight at a lounge northwest of downtown.

Responding officers found a man suffering from gunshot wounds inside a bar, near 112 Street and 107 Avenue after midnight.

“At about 12:30 this morning we received multiple reports of shots fired in this lounge,” EPS Inspector Brian Nowlan said. “Upon arrival we found a man suffering from bullet wounds, he died on the scene.”

The victim was described as a 31-year-old man, and witnesses said the shooter fled the area.

The suspect is described as a black man in his mid-20s, about 6’3” tall with visible scars on his neck and a beard.

Police spoke with about twenty people who were inside the building at the time of the shooting.

“There are a lot of witnesses and we have been able to identify three or four at this point who are helpful but it’s in a group that big and of course from shots fired everyone scattered,” Insp. Nowlan said.

This is not the first time the Papyrus Lounge has been the site of a shooting death.

On New Years Day three years ago, it was the backdrop for the homicide of Mohammed Jama, 23, that case was never solved.
