The southbound lanes of the Queen Elizabeth II Highway are expected to open shortly after noon – after they were closed following a serious collision Monday morning.

Emergency crews closed the southbound lanes after a semi-truck hauling pipe was reportedly cut off, and went off the road just after 8 a.m. on the QE2 at Nisku.

The load came loose – and some of the pipes burst through the cab of the semi, injuring the driver.

STARS Air Ambulance was called, and airlifted the driver to hospital – he’s said to be in stable condition.

Crews were working throughout the morning to clean up the mess.

Serious delays were reported as a result of the collision – however, CTV News has learned the highway should be reopened early Monday afternoon.
