A routine traffic stop lead officers to make a huge drug bust in Edson Tuesday.

The chain of events started when an RCMP officer pulled over a vehicle Tuesday afternoon and noticed the driver was carrying several items often used to grow marijuana.

The officer let the driver go and later contacted the joint Edmonton police and RCMP Green Team to report what he saw.

A number of police then executed a search warrant on the man's house at 118 Avenue and 70 Street and found more than 1,400 baby marijuana plants.

Police said the potential street value of the plants when they are fully grown is more than $1.4 million.

Officers also seized about $15,000 worth of grow equipment.

Tho Huu Nguyen, 34, of British Columbia, was charged with cultivation of marihuana, possession for the purpose of trafficking, and theft of electrical power.
