The sentencing of a Stony Plain man, charged in connection to an incident dating back to the fall of 2011, faced another delay Thursday.

Robert Paolinelli, 42, pleaded guilty to sexual exploitation at the end of June – two charges of sexual assault and unlawful confinement were dropped.

The charges laid against the former teacher and hockey coach stemmed from the events of a drunken night on Oct. 4, 2011.

That night, a number of young hockey players were playing a card game that included removing their clothes.

It’s believed the night ended with the victim alone in Paolinelli’s bedroom, where the drinking continued – the teenaged boy was one of a number of hockey players living with Paolinelli at the time.

In his testimony, the accused said he had just wanted to talk to the boy about hockey – but the victim claimed he was groped, and that his coach had tried to kiss him.

Sentencing was originally slated for late October, but it was put over until Thursday.

Paolinelli’s sentencing has been scheduled for Feb. 27.
