Edmonton police have laid charges, and identified the victim, in the city’s first homicide of 2013.

Police confirmed Monday that Raymond George Anderson, 41, is facing a charge of second degree murder, and a charge of failing to comply with a probation order.

The charges stem from an investigation that began after police were called to an inner-city apartment building on Wednesday, Jan. 9 at about 9 p.m.

Officers were called by paramedics to the apartment block at 106 Avenue and 101 Street – and found a deceased man inside one of the suites.

Late last week, police confirmed the death was homicide – but could not release the name of the victim.

On Monday, police identified the victim as 50-year-old Karl Wayne Rittwage.

Homicide detectives are still investigating.
