A 7-year-old who was abducted from a park in northeast Edmonton/>/> Sunday morning is now safe and sound, but police say they still need help from the public to locate the man responsible for her abduction.

The girl was playing at the park with her two brothers, when a man approached her and was coaxed into leaving the area with him. Her two brothers ran home to tell their mother about the incident, who then called the police.

She was dropped off at a restaurant around 3:00 pm.  She came into the restaurant alone with $10 and a note that described how she lived in Edmonton, needed to get back to the city and needed to  get something to eat and drink.  The girl told staff that she was with her dad's friend and he wanted to show her a kitty, but she didn't want to see a kitty.

Staff at the restaurant identified the girl as the one taken from Edmonton earlier in the day and contacted local RCMP, who contaced Edmonton police.

Police had issued an Amber Alert, alerting the public and asking for assistance in searching for the suspect.

"Right from the onset of the report, we know we have to (use) as many resources as possible, these cases have to be solved as quickly as possible," said Edmonton police Chief Mike Boyd.

It is believed the suspect is a caucasian male about 20-30 years of age. The man is balding with blond hair. He was wearing silver-rimmed glasses and is believed to be six feet tall, wearing a dark coloured zip-up jacket and light blue jeans.

The vehicle is a newer SUV (possibly a Tracker or Jeep), royal blue in colour. The last three digits in the license plate are "179".

CTV News has learned the man had approached two other young girls prior to the incident telling them he had kittens for sale.

Anyone with information on the suspect's whereabouts can contact police at 780-423-4567 or by calling 9-1-1. Information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or at the Crime Stoppers website (www.tipsubmit.com).
