An incident caught on camera of a person being chased by a clown in Sylvan Lake has been confirmed to be a hoax.

On October 5, 2016, Sylvan Lake RCMP began investigating an incident where a teen was chased by a person dressed as a clown.  The “clown” chased the teen from a local playground to the front door of their home.  The suspect then stood outside the door of the residence for a few moments before fleeing the scene.

The incident was captured on camera and posted to a social media site.  This incident spawned two additional reports of clown sightings in the days following.

A youth was arrested by the RCMP on October 27, after information gathered during the investigation confirmed the incident was a hoax. The charge of public mischief is pending and no charges have been laid at this time.

The name of the youth cannot be released under the provision of the Youth Criminal Justice act.

Sylvan Lake RCMP will have numerous officers in the community on Monday, October 31 to ensure the public is able to enjoy Halloween safely.
